The Housing Industry Association (HIA) today announced it’s support for the pathway for Australian defence force veterans into the residential construction industry.

“The Prime Minister’s commitment to support our post-service veterans through their transition into a private sector career is very welcome,” said HIA Managing Director, Shane Goodwin.

“Defence force personnel are well equipped to contribute to the residential building industry and will benefit from the support and employment advice made available under the Turnbull Government’s Veterans Employment Program.”

“ADF personnel gain training and experience across a range of construction trade related qualifications during their defence force service,” said Mr Goodwin. “Moreover, they develop many other related skills, including inter-personal communication, project planning, leadership, WHS and business, all of which are in high demand across the private sector.”

“Whether they move into trade, professional or managerial roles, post-service veterans have much to offer the private sector, in terms of energy, enthusiasm, productivity and experience.”

“Building partnerships between the Australian Public Service Commission, Ex-service Organisations and industry groups, towards creating employment opportunities and streamlining the transition into post-service occupations, provides the ideal pathway for ADF personnel to reach into the private sector and establish a career in their chosen industry,” said Mr Goodwin.
